Incredible On-Court Style Moments at Wimbledon

All the tennis greats have graced Wimbledon over the years, and many displayed a unique approach to on-court style. Italian tennis star Lea Pericoli was way ahead of the curve in 1965 when she paired her ruffled Teddy Tinling minidress with an Anne Boleyn-esque statement headband. And who could forget US player Anne White’s quintessentially ’80s Lycra catsuit at the 1985 tournament?

Meanwhile, rivals Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams have taken a similarly bold approach to their kit as to their serves. Their shared sponsor, Nike, provided the contemporary tennis dresses the pair wore for the 2004 Wimbledon Women’s Singles Final, from which Sharapova ultimately emerged as the victor.

Though competitors must adhere to the strict all-white Wimbledon dress code, Williams has famously played with offbeat silhouettes, textured detailing, and diamanté embellishments in her years at SW19. Her sister and fellow champion, Venus, celebrated her 2000 win in a cut-out mini dress with orange piping.

Here, Vogue looks back at some of the most memorable on-court style moments from SW19.

After a Las Vegas wedding–and a very sweet message to go along with the ceremony!–Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck jetted off to Paris, France to celebrate their honeymoon. The power couple’s first stop was Le Marais, where the new, very in-love duo was spotted taking a stroll. The looks were down-to-earth with a hint of laissez-faire charm. Affleck opted for a standard blue button-up with a pair of dark wash jeans and sneakers—along with the signature scruff he’s had since his early days with Jenny. As for Lopez, she opted for a sweet ’50s-style floral print dress along with a red croc Hermès Birkin bag on her side. For the footwear? The superstar slipped into a modest white flip-flop sandal.

Ever since their first outing as a couple over 20 years ago, Lopez has always been high glam with her megawatt looks and accessories, while Affleck has been more easy-going in T-shirts along with the occasional flash of a watch. In a fashion sense, it’s interesting to see the two reconnect and, at times, match their looks, and at other times do their own thing. And while the two sometimes coordinate, maybe this time, it’s Lopez who is taking the cue from her partner. Either way, her honeymoon flip-flop moment is Jenny from the Block to the core, or in this case, Jenny from Le Block.
