Why You Should Never Rent a Pickup Truck in Dubai

Renting pickup trucks in Dubai may seem like a good idea at first, but there are several reasons why you should never do it. The fines and penalties are very steep, and it can cost thousands of dollars to get out of pick up rental dubai. Furthermore, even if you’re careful and responsible, you can still easily get into an accident because of the reckless driving on the roads of Dubai and beyond! Here are five reasons why you should never rent a pickup truck in Dubai.

The only type of people who should rent pickup trucks

Since pickup trucks are so large, they’re definitely not suited for city driving. They are best suited for people who will be traveling from place to place and don’t mind maneuvering it through traffic. If you’re visiting New York City for vacation and don’t have time to drive across town, renting a pickup truck might make sense—but only if you plan on staying at one location during your visit. Otherwise, skip it. The last thing you want is to risk damaging your vehicle by trying to move it around town. Stay away from pickup trucks if possible!

Reasons why you shouldn’t rent pickup trucks

The city of Dubai is known for many things, such as its beautiful architecture and skyline. It’s also known for its traffic problems, which are quite unique compared to most other cities around the world. But it’s not just drivers that suffer from congested roads – pedestrians suffer too. Rickshaws and quad bikes drive through pedestrian malls and sidewalks because there simply isn’t enough room for them on official roads; what looks like a main road can actually just be someone’s driveway (or even an actual road), meaning you really have to pay attention if you don’t want to become lost or stranded somewhere.

The city doesn’t need your pickup truck

I’m not saying you shouldn’t visit Dubai. I’m also not saying that you won’t need your pickup truck while you are there. But if you live here, or plan to stay for an extended period of time, it just isn’t worth it to rent one. You might feel adventurous and think that seeing Dubai from behind its wheel is something special—but with few exceptions, it isn’t. The city does have beautiful stretches of desert where pickup trucks make sense—but most tourists don’t have a private driver who’s happy to take them out of town on day trips into sand dunes and oases.

So let’s talk about what you could do with that extra cash—the money you’ll save by not renting a pickup truck. If your home base is Dubai Marina, I’d recommend taking an Uber to Jumeirah Beach Park or just wandering down to JBR Walk. The views are lovely, especially at sunset. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, grab some Arabic coffee and pastries and people-watch at Mall of Emirates’ outside cafes or head to Old Town for a taste of what life was like before skyscrapers. Even if you want to check out Gold Souk or Khalidiya market—or go on safari at Dubailand—don’t waste your time trying to navigate those areas with your pickup truck (it won’t happen) but take taxis instead.

Here are the two main reasons why you shouldn’t rent a pickup truck in Dubai

1) vehicle restrictions and 2) fuel economy. I’ll touch on both points and share my personal experience with you. Vehicle Restrictions When renting or buying a car in Dubai, pickup trucks are strictly forbidden for being too large for most city streets. This includes Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 pickups (the two most popular models). The only pickup truck allowed to be rented here is Nissan Frontier, which is more compact and easier to maneuver through small alleys and crowded parking lots, but lacks cargo space compared to Silverado or F-150. If you want room for passengers as well as luggage, you’re better off renting a minivan like Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey.
